AMANDINE LOUBÈRE WORKSHOP

Description

This Northumbria Basketry Group workshop will concentrate on making a lidded basket, a Panier à Couvercle, using brown willow with quite firm willow for the uprights and semi-circular hoops for the lids. See attached photo. Those who finish with time to spare will be able to make a second smaller piece. 

 

DATES: THREE - DAY COURSE, FRIDAY 16th to SUNDAY 18th OCTOBER. Aimed at experienced basketmakers working at a good intermediate and advanced level. The course, for maximum eight participants, will run from 9.30am until approximately 4:30pm each day. 

 

TUTOR:  This is an in-depth course taught by Amandine Loubère, a professional French basket maker who trained at the French National School of Basketry before opening her own workshop, Le Lieu des Loups (meaning “the place of the wolves”), in 2019 in Blondefontaine. She teaches at various French venues and also delivers a variety of courses around Europe, and is highly regarded as a skilled maker, innovator and teacher by fellow European basketmakers. THE BASKET: You will be concentrating on making a traditional French base and an oval basket with lids from brown willow using distinctly French techniques. Some variations will be possible regarding the basket shape and size as it is not made on a mould. During the three day workshop you will focus on creating one fine piece. A second basket may be possible within the time.

 

COST: The cost is £260 for the three days, and includes all materials, tea, coffee and biscuits. Bring your own lunch. This is an assisted place and financial help may be available, subject to discussions in confidence.

 

ACCOMMODATION: Accommodation is available locally.  There is one place left in a self catering holiday let closeby at a cost of £45. Other local accommodation is available.

 

This course is supported by the Northumbria Basketry Group, and the cost of the venue has been subsidised by NBG.
