The Weardale Basketry Group meets in the St Thomas Centre, 2 Rectory Lane, Wolsingham, DL13 3AG. Rectory Lane is just off Angate Street (B6296). The hall and car park are behind St Thomas Church and access to both is down the left-hand side of the church building. A map is available to help newcomers find the venue.
The group meets on the second Saturday of each month (first Saturday in December) from 10 am to 3 pm.
The session fee is £15, plus £10 annual membership of Northumbria Basketry Group. Membership can be paid online or at the first or second session attended.
The dates for our 2023 sessions are:
Please book your place with Sheila (contact details below), at least a week before each session to ensure that enough willow is prepared and that there is space for everyone.
We have basketry tools available for new starters to borrow on the day, but everyone is encouraged to purchase their own after their first few sessions. A list of other items you might find helpful to bring with you can be provided.
We provide hot drinks and biscuits but please bring a packed lunch.
The group works without a tutor, and everyone helps each other. Anyone new to basketry will gain more from the group sessions if they also attend a beginners’ workshop. Alternatively, individual tuition can be provided during regular sessions at additional cost. The group coordinator can provide information about these.
We welcome both beginners and those with existing basketry experience. If you would like information about joining this group, please email the group coordinator (contact details below), who will be happy to help.
