Venue : Holy Island
Cost : £300
description

Come and make a Northumbrian Fishwife's Creel with Anna Turnbull on the beautiful island of Lindisfarne.

Our area has a rich heritage in basketmaking and basket use. Like so many traditional baskets, the fishwife's creel has a simplicity and economy of design which make it beautiful and practical at the same time. It is a reminder of and a tribute to a vanished way of life in the fishing villages of Northumberland.

Liz Balfour has researched this design with Alan Winlow, who will make the wooden frames for the baskets.

We will cross over to the island on the causeway before the tide comes in at 14.00 on Friday afternoon and leave before 15.40 when it comes in on Sunday.

We will be staying at the Lindisfarne Hotel, which is booked for our sole use, and our workshop will take place in the lovely St Cuthbert's Centre. Dinner is not included in the workshop price as we plan to eat together in one of the local pubs in the evening.

To book a place, which costs £300, please send a cheque made out to "Lucker and Barnburgh Willow Weavers" at; Lucker House, Lucker, Belford, Northumberland, NE707JG. For further information telephone Anne Otley.

Materials are additional and can be paid directly to Anna during the weekend. Approximately £30 for the frame and £10 for the willow.
