Rachel's workshop will explore ways to utilise the wild common field rush, making a cornucopia
shoulder bag using a variety of less conventional techniques and ways of working with this
undervalued material.
With over 25 years of making for the Heritage Industry, Rachel's particular interest is in British
basketry designs throughout history. Supplying museums, fashion designers and film companies
she creates both historical reproductions and her own unique designs. Working in a wide variety
of materials, she specialises in rush and other wild plants.
You will be making an eye-catching 'Cornucopia' shoulder bag of her own design from locally
gathered field rush. Using a variety of techniques you will be working the soft rush of the body
onto hooped frame supports, lashing with twine and coir rope, and splicing rope for the strap. The
bags will have a pre-prepared linen lining.
