24th October 2017
Time : 10.00 am to 4.00 pm
Venue : Whitley Chapel Village Hall
Cost : £60 members, £70 non members
description

This one-day, round and oval hoop making course, is designed to take you through the complete process, from selecting the material for making different sized hoops to the finished hoop.

These hoops can then be used at a later date to build baskets with the very popular French technique of scallom and fitching or to make frame baskets such as a wisket or an Irish sciathóg.

You will be able to select material from our willow plot at Whitley Chapel, bring your own freshly cut rods if you grow your own, or you can use some of Jenny’s. Each person is likely to need in the region of 30 rods to make around 10 good hoops as there will inevitably be some wastage during the learning process.

As a guide, the most suitable rods for hoops need to be between 7-11 feet long, 1-2 years growth, disease free and with no side shoots.

Cost per day, including tea and coffee, £60 for NBG members, £70 for non-members.

There will be a small additional charge for any willow you use from the plot or from Jenny.

To secure a place please request a booking form from Sheila. Details of payment methods included on the form.
