About Us
Northumbria Basketry Group is a non profit organisation with a constitution run by volunteers with membership from the Northumbria area. It provides tuition in making baskets, rush and cane seating, willow sculpture, willow hurdles/screens, plant support pyramids and Christmas decorations.
The self help group meets regularly every month from September to May and advanced skills workshops are held on a regular basis. Workshops are also run for various community groups and members seek to promote basket making and associated crafts at local events and meetings.
Members manage a willow growing facility to provide weaving materials for group activities and also conduct research into the history of basket making and basket use in the area.
